Sports Day 2023

We were delighted to welcome Charlie Walker back to QEH this week. Charlie is an explorer, writer and public speaker who has done some amazing expeditions over his 12 year career to date.

QEH School’s annual sports day was held recently on Saturday, 17th June. This fun-filled event brought together the QEH community at our Failand Sports Ground.

With a breadth of events held across the day, from high jump to the popular tug-of-war, pupils impressed with their athletic prowess and commitment. House spirit was also very much in evidence, with good natured rivalry throughout the day.

This year’s sports day held an extra significance as it served as a fitting tribute to our Director of Sport, Mr. Joslin. After an incredible 25 sports days, Mr. Joslin is stepping down from his role, and we took this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for his outstanding contributions to QEH. We look forward to seeing Mr. Joslin on the touchline in September as he continues to coach some of the QEH teams.

Pictured above are some of the trophy winners, including:

Nathan M: U12 Champion
James A: Senior long jump
Rayaan M: U13 Champion
Arthur H: Senior Boys Champion and boys 100m record
Rosie M: Girls 100m
Lucy T: Senior Girls Champion

Additional congratulations to the record breakers; Rayaan M in the U13 100m and 200m. Rosie M in the 100m and 200m and Lucy T in the 400m, 800m and Long Jump

Our caterers, Holroyd Howe, put on a fantastic selection of food for our spectators in the marquee and thank you to QEH Friends also for running a wide range of stalls at the event.

We would like to thank all of the parents, spectators, and staff who helped to make the day such a success.

At QEH Junior School, learning goes beyond the classroom with a wide range of clubs in sports, arts, STEM, and more. With expert coaching and sessions throughout the day, every pupil can discover new passions and develop key skills.

As we mark VE Day, we honour the Old Elizabethans who lived through the Second World War — boys who studied during air raids, served in the Air Training Corps, and celebrated peace with weary joy. This article brings together first-hand memories, school archives, and reflections from that extraordinary period — a vivid reminder of the freedoms we now enjoy, made possible by the sacrifices of the past.

Live theatre is here to stay at QEH, as pupils from Years 3 and 4 put on an incredible production of Jack and the Beanstalk last week in our theatre.

We are immensely grateful for your teaching, support and guidance. My daughter’s had a terrific time at QEH. Results day made us very proud of course; and the warmth and mutual respect of staff and students filled the room. The environment at QEH has helped my daughter grow, be challenged, and really learn about herself and the world. Thank you again, and may the school continue to thrive.
