Project Zulu

We recently had the absolute pleasure of welcoming back Project Zulu to QEH for the day, having had them before to visit back in 2015.

Every other year Project Zulu bring a choir of incredibly talented children from various partner schools in KwaZulu Natal to tour the UK with their traditional Zulu songs and dances. These choirs wow audiences when performing in concert venues, busking in cities, visiting UK Schools as well as recording and selling their own albums. All funds raised during the tours are used to support development projects at their South African schools including building classrooms and sports facilities, setting up libraries, IT classrooms and much more.

The choir performed for the year 12s in assembly then led some singing and gum boot dancing workshops with our junior choir during the morning. This was followed by performances to all students in years 7-10 (and the junior school). During the afternoon they enjoyed participating in Art and PE lessons with our students: two subjects they don’t learn at their own school.

It was an incredibly enriching experience sitting back and listening to these young talented singers and dancers perform a variety of traditional Zulu dances and songs. Considering they were days away from the end of their epic 3 week tour (and we were informed that they had only had one day off in all that time!) they still had incredible energy which was really felt by the appreciative audiences of students and staff.

As our Year 13 students prepare for their exams, QEH marked this poignant moment with a day of celebration, reflection, and tradition. From heartfelt speeches and emotional goodbyes to the historic reading of The Charge

At QEH Junior School, learning goes beyond the classroom with a wide range of clubs in sports, arts, STEM, and more. With expert coaching and sessions throughout the day, every pupil can discover new passions and develop key skills.

Live theatre is here to stay at QEH, as pupils from Years 3 and 4 put on an incredible production of Jack and the Beanstalk last week in our theatre.
