QEH Leading the Way in Sustainability and Eco Initiatives

At QEH, sustainability is at the heart of our community. From reducing food waste with Holroyd Howe to promoting sustainable transport and engaging in wildlife conservation, our pupil-led initiatives are making a real impact.

At QEH, sustainability and eco-conscious initiatives are at the heart of our community. Our dedicated Senior Eco Group meets weekly to brainstorm and implement projects such as eco-lighting that reduce the school’s environmental impact while inspiring positive change in the wider community.

One of the group’s standout initiatives is the incredible effort from our catering team Holroyd Howe to minimise lunchtime food waste. A new system has been introduced in the dining hall, featuring informative boards displaying daily, weekly, and monthly waste volumes. This initiative has been warmly received by both staff and pupils, fostering greater awareness and encouraging waste reduction.

Meanwhile, our Junior School recently represented QEH in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. As the world’s largest garden wildlife survey, this event was a fantastic opportunity for our junior pupils to engage with nature and contribute to vital conservation efforts.

Looking ahead, the Eco Group is focusing on sustainable transport & toilet solutions. They are exploring ways to encourage pupils to reduce the environmental impact of their journeys to school. Plans are underway to provide detailed information on alternative travel options, aiming to decrease reliance on car drop-offs and promote greener commuting habits.

QEH is committed to fostering an environmentally responsible culture, and we look forward to seeing the continued success of these inspiring projects. Stay tuned for more updates as we work together to make a difference!

QEH’s annual Lizzies Awards celebrated pupil creativity with an inspiring showcase of short films based on the themes ‘Three Wishes’ and ‘Myths’.

QEH provides a safe, nurturing environment where each pupil is treated as an individual.  The results are confident young men who truly believe in themselves.  Freddie now has a passion for learning and the confidence to apply it which is due to the school, its understanding of boys and its fantastic staff.
