Following the government announcement on Monday afternoon, Year 11 pupils were welcomed into QEH today to receive their GCSE CAGs. This is the first time these pupils have been back in school since March.

“While we understand that, in the current circumstances, it’s difficult to directly compare results with previous years, we were pleased to see that the overall results celebrated the ability of this cohort. We feel it’s still important to acknowledge and commend pupils’ success: 76% of all grades awarded were 9-7/A*A, 91% 9-6/A*-B. It’s the sustained effort and hard work of the pupils throughout the two years of the GCSE courses that provided the evidence to enable us to award these grades. Their teachers and I are immensely proud of them. I would like to thank the staff who shouldered the additional task of finalising exam grades while continuing to teach and support all the other year groups with their virtual learning and wellbeing during lockdown. It has been a challenging time for all of us and, since beginning my role as Head at Easter, I have been impressed to see such outstanding resilience and commitment in the whole QEH community,” said Head, Rupert Heathcote.

“In the absence of exams, Year 11 pupils did not let the grass grow under their feet! They were given challenging short courses and tasks to enable them to gain a head start in the A-level courses they will begin next month and I am delighted with the engagement and dedication they have demonstrated. We’re looking to welcoming them, and our new students, into the Sixth Form in September.”

QEH’s annual Lizzies Awards celebrated pupil creativity with an inspiring showcase of short films based on the themes ‘Three Wishes’ and ‘Myths’.

Starting QEH Sixth Form after moving from an all-girls school was daunting — but this honest reflection shows how one student found confidence, connection, and community by saying

Live theatre is here to stay at QEH, as pupils from Years 3 and 4 put on an incredible production of Jack and the Beanstalk last week in our theatre.

With our two sons being at this school over the past 13 years, we could not be happier with the amazing teachers, teaching and all the extra activities outside of the curriculum. Both boys have come away with outstanding results and aside from that as perfectly rounded, confident and well-mannered young men. We leave today so thanks to the school for everything, we shall miss these days.
